Sofitel Frankfurt Opera and Aleph Art Gallery are delighted to announce the continuation of their unique art collaboration. Together, they mark the start of the festive season with the opening of the art vernissage “Flight into the New Year.”
Following the successful launch of their partnership in October, the collaboration resumes with a new exhibition exploring the timeless human aspiration to fly. This carefully curated showcase of international and regional contemporary artists will open at Sofitel Frankfurt Opera on November 29, 2024.
The dream of flight is as old as humanity itself, deeply rooted in ancient religions and mythologies. Long before Leonardo da Vinci created his intricate, albeit impractical, flying machine sketches, humans pondered how to soar through the skies. In the 20th century, the advent of aviation reignited this fascination, inspiring a renaissance of flight as a theme in modern art. “Flight into the New Year” builds upon this legacy, offering four contemporary interpretations of this age-old dream.
Set within Sofitel’s refined interiors, illuminated by the soft glow of candlelight, the exhibition presents works by the following distinguished artists:
• Sieglinde Gros: A sculptor celebrated for her expressive wooden sculptures. Her works captivate with their raw, archaic aesthetic and intentionally visible traces of craftsmanship, inviting reflection on profound human emotions and existence.
• Elke Emmy Laubner: A contemporary painter and photographer who bridges digital imagery and traditional painting. She transforms media templates into surreal painted spaces, challenging visual perceptions in the digital era.
• Karen Shahverdyan: A painter blending traditional techniques with modern surrealist approaches. His works blur the boundaries between reality and fiction, captivating viewers with layered symbolism and meticulous precision.
• Alexandr Osipov: Known for his dynamic and expressive works that explore movement and transformation, Osipov’s art is defined by bold colors and fluid forms, encapsulating the essence of motion and change.
The exhibition’s highlights include:
• “Flight of Thoughts/Flow of Thoughts” by Sieglinde Gros
• “Ludwigshöhe” by Elke Emmy Laubner
• “Milky Way” by Karen Shahverdyan
• “Vires Unitae Agunt” by Alexandr Osipov
These art works align seamlessly with the exhibition’s overarching theme, providing an inspirational visual experience for visitors. The artwork is available to purchase through the gallery.
The collaboration between Sofitel Frankfurt Opera and Aleph Art Gallery merges Sofitel’s French “Art de Vivre” philosophy—celebrating joy, life, and aesthetics—with the exceptional creativity of the featured artists. This synergy creates a unique platform for art presentation, inviting guests to immerse themselves in Sofitel’s elegant and creative ambiance.
